Indications for Use

Infectious and inflammatory diseases caused by gram-negative microorganisms (resistant to gentamicin, sisomicin, and kanamycin): respiratory tract infections (bronchitis, pneumonia, pleural empyema, lung abscess); sepsis; septic endocarditis; CNS infections (including meningitis); abdominal infections (including peritonitis); genitourinary tract infections; purulent skin and soft tissue infections; biliary tract infections; bone and joint infections (including osteomyelitis); wound infections; postoperative infections; otitis.

Composition & Active Ingredient

Active Ingredient: Amikatsin
Composition: Each 2 ml of solution contains: for the 100 mg/2 ml dose — active substance amikacin sulfate, equivalent to amikacin, 100 mg; for the 500 mg/2 ml dose — amikacin sulfate, equivalent to amikacin, 500 mg; excipients — methylparaben, propylparaben, water for injection.

Dosage & Administration

Dosage: IM, IV (bolus over 2 minutes or drip) 5 mg/kg every 8 hours or 7.5 mg/kg every 12 hours. For uncomplicated bacterial urinary tract infections — 250 mg every 12 hours. Maximum dose for adults — up to 15 mg/kg/day, but no more than 1.5 g/day for 10 days. For premature newborns, the starting dose is 10 mg/kg, then 7.5 mg/kg every 18–24 hours.
Usage Instructions: Administered intramuscularly or intravenously (bolus over 2 minutes or drip). Duration of treatment with IV administration — 3–7 days, with IM — 7–10 days.

Contraindications

Auditory nerve neuritis; severe renal failure with azotemia and uremia; pregnancy; history of hypersensitivity to the components of the drug (including other aminoglycosides).

Storage & Packaging

Storage Conditions: Store in a dry place protected from light at a temperature not exceeding 25°C. Keep out of reach of children. Shelf life — 2 years.
